Benin-Asaba Expressway: Motorists Urges FERMA To Return To Site

Alikifede – Some motorists and passengers plying the Benin-Asaba expressway have reiterated calls on the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to fix the failed portions of the road to further reduce crashes on the highway.

The motorists reiterated the call on Monday, at Alikifede, Ika-south Local Government Area of Delta State, after one of the tyres of a white Toyota 18-seater bus (Registration Number withheld) heading to Onitsha from Benin exploded after it entered a pot hole along the road.

The road which serves as transit route through Edo state, to the Eastern part of the country, they maintained have become nightmare to travellers as well as dead traps to motorists especially those that are unfamiliar with the road from.

According to a passenger in the Onitsha-bound bus, it took the composure of the driver to control the vehicle to safety, which according to her was on “high speed”.

The passenger who declined to give her name appealed to the federal government to mobilize FERMA back to site, to reduce road crashes on the dual carriage highway.

“imidiately the tyre entered the bad place, it burst, and our driver was able to control it till we finally park here. If not God”, She told The Nigerian Observer.

Also, a motorist, Mr Palmer Ighodalo fault the agency for the poor state of roads across the country, lamenting, “from the Benin Bypass all the way to the east, I don’t think FERMA is working anywhere”.

Mr. Aiwuyor urged FERMA to rise up to its responsibility, to avoid further loss of lives and properties on federal roads.

However, though no one was hurt, men of The Nigerian Police, and officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) were yet to arrive the scene as at the time of filing this report....
