INEC Advises Ad-Hoc Staff Yet To Receive Allowances To Rectify Account Details

JOS – The Plateau office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Wednesday advised ad-hoc staff yet to receive their allowances, to rectify their bank account details.

“We have heard complaints that some ad hoc staff are yet to receive their allowances. Our checks reveal that those in that category have issues with their bank details. They should rectify that,” Mr Osaretin Imahiyereobo, an INEC official, said in Jos.

Imahiyereobo, Head, Voters Education and Publicity, advised the workers to come to the commission’s office to reconcile the bank details so as to ease the payment.

The INEC official spoke during a Town Hall Meeting organised by Search For Common Ground, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).

He said that the commission was not responsible for the delay in the payment of the allowances.

“INEC is not at fault in this matter. The ad-hoc staff have themselves to blame because some of them did not give their correct bank account details.
“We are advising anyone who has not received his or her allowances to come forward to the commission to rectify his or her bank account number. Once that is done, the allowances will be received without delay.”

Imahiyereobo also spoke on the issue of inconclusive elections and attributed it to some challenges bordering on the conduct of politicians and voters.

According to him, “inconclusive elections happened because we had issues that called for that and we had to allow it for peace to reign.’’

Also speaking, Mr Godwin Okoko, an election observer, said that there were issues with the just concluded 2019 elections that needed deeper appraisal to forestall such pitfalls in future exercises.

Okoko challenged the stakeholders to appraise the election exercise and suggest measures toward improved polls that would deepen Nigeria’s democracy....
